第５回PDA高校生即興型英語ディベート全国大会 開催日時：2019年12月21日（土）、22日（日） 会場：東京大学本郷キャンパス ジャッジ：一般社団法人　パーラメンタリーディベート人財育成協会(PDA)

本校2年生生徒3名（山口真愛さん、大平清香さん、夏梅宙さん）が第５回PDA高校生即興型英語ディベート全国大会に参加しました。全国大会には64校が参加し、各校は4ラウンドの試合を行いました。

第1ラウンド

論題「Club activities should have three days off a week.（部活動は週休3日とすべきである。）」

　対戦校：青森県立青森高等学校

第2ラウンド

論題「Children should be prohibited from posting on video hosting websites.

（子どもが動画投稿サイトに投稿することを禁止すべきである。）」

　対戦校：富山国際大学附属高等学校

第3ラウンド

論題「The postponement of introducing private English tests into national university entrance examinations has brought more benefits than harm.

（共通テストの英語民間試験導入の見送りは、害よりも利益をもたらした。）」

　対戦校：聖光学院中学校高等学校

第4ラウンド

論題「Social media (e.g. twitter) causes only division of society.（ツイッターなどのソーシャルメディア(SNS)は社会の分断を助長するだけである。）」

　対戦校：京都府立鳥羽高等学校

参加生徒は日頃の学習の成果を発揮し、３勝１敗で64校中15位の好成績を残しました。表彰式では山口真愛さんが参加生徒192名のうち5名だけに与えられたベストディベーター賞を受賞しました。本校は校内英語ディベート体験会（5月16日）、東海公立高校英語ディベート交流大会（6月15日）を通じて英語ディベートの練習、実践をしてきました。ハイレベルな全国大会の対戦の場で自信を持って英語を使って自分の意見を伝え、相手の意見に効果的に反論することを通じて、全国でも通用する英語力が身についたと実感することができました。

・At first, I want to thank our teachers, family, friends, and all people that supported us to participate in this wonderful competition. This was the first time for us and our school to participate in this contest. So, we had many things that we didn’t know, and sometimes we felt worried. However, we were able to enjoy and do our best. We were able to show our best debates in the all four rounds what we had done. We learnt many things and styles from the great debaters from many schools. I’m sure that this will be an unforgettable competition and an experience for the rest of my life.

　始めに、この素晴らしい大会に参加する支援をして下さった先生方、家族、友人など全ての人々に感謝します。私たち、四高にとって今回が大会への初参加だったので、分からなかったことがたくさんあり、不安に感じたこともありました。しかし、私たちは楽しんで最善を尽くすことができました。私たちは対戦した4試合で最高のディベートをすることができました。他校の素晴らしいディベーターから多くのことや姿勢を学びました。これが忘れられない大会となり、これからの人生での経験になると確信しています。

・This competition brought me to realize not only the importance of quick response in English but also that I have to discuss every issue from various perspectives. I was really lucky to take part in this competition.

　この大会に参加して英語で素早く反応することの重要性だけではなく、様々な観点から議論しなければならないことに気づきました。参加することができてとても幸運でした。

・I was bad at English though I like English. I’d been afraid of making grammatical mistakes. To improve my English speaking skill, I have been looking for the chance. This is my turning point. PDA High School Parliamentary Debate National Competition. Through this competition, I learned that we must speak confidently. Without confidence, you’ll just feel irritated with yourself. On the other hand, when you play a role, you’ll have a sense of achievement. Thanks to debates, I’ve made progress in speaking English. There is no doubt that English debate gives you advantages because it requires not only entire skills of English but also education: what is going on in the world or what problems are. Yokkaichi High School students have many opportunities to improve your different skills. Why don’t you make the most of them?

　英語は好きなのに苦手でした。文法の間違いを犯すのを恐れていたのです。英語を話す能力を向上させるために、機会を探していました。このPDA高校生即興型英語ディベート全国大会はターニングポイントとなりました。この大会を通じて、自信を持って話さなければならないと学びました。自信がなければ、自分自身に対してイライラするだけです。一方、役割を演じている時には、達成感が得られます。ディベートのおかげで、英語を話す能力が向上しました。英語ディベートには英語全般の能力だけではなく世界でどんなことが起こっていて問題は何かという教養も必要とされるので、自分にとって有益であることには疑いがありません。四高生は様々な能力を向上させる数多くの機会に恵まれています。最大限利用してみてはいかがでしょうか。
