Yokkaichi Pollution and Environmental Measures

Students first watched DVD and visited exhibition of Yokkaichi pollution. Then had a lecturer and learned about cause of Yokkaichi asthma, sulfurous acid gas from the and patient, trial process, measures against air pollution after the trial and current air pollution issue.Lecturer also explained details of situation and features of global warming, transition of CO2 emissions, impacts / problems of global warming and the world movements (COP 21, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement, IPCC, etc.). Student enrich their understanding on the environmental issue through group discussions and presentation process.

Globalized Human Rights ~ From the perspective of Asia, America and Hawaii

In Part 1, with a title of "Travel and Human right. Message from novelist", she talked about racial discrimination, ethnic discrimination and poverty issues in the United States (including Hawaii) and Asia (Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal). In Part 2, students were divided into three groups, discussed and had presentation on issues of "child labor / poverty", "human rights of women in Asia", "racial discrimination", "hate speech", "disaster and human rights". Ms. Nakagami gave comments to each group. All group had deep discussion and good presentation. Students received compliment from the lecturer.

What is Cultural Research

The purpose of cultural research is to understand "cultural differences" as a major premise. As examples, 1.To secure prayers room for Muslim " in order to accept more number of foreign tourists by 2020". 2. Chicken ramen were sold well in the world because it was "chicken" it was easily accepted by any religions. Mr. Tajiri explained that it is important to understand the culture and acknowledge. He also emphasized the importance of recognition of differences. Things that is ubiquitous in Japan are not necessary the same in other countries. He explained by using examples such as "OSHIBORI (wet towel)", "taxi automatic door" and "vending machine". The students were convinced the importance of "knowing our own culture" and "disseminating our culture". They also understood "topic of cultural research" exist in their daily life.

After a quarter of a century from "The fall of the Berlin Wall" "Tiananmen Square Incident" (1989) - Modern constitutionalism

Students compared Europe after the collapse of "Berlin Wall" and China after the "Tiananmen Incident". They discussed from the three perspectives "Peace" "Economic Growth" and "Constitution". The students had an opportunity to listen to stories of overseas from the 1990s to the present including professor Kodama's experience of study abroad in Russia.
Students had opportunities to understand the world situation from learning "history of 1990s" which is closest history to the present.

Medicines Sans Frontiers

What is "Medicines Sans Fronties"? Purpose of establishment, Medical activities, activity contents and information dissemination. Ms. Suzuki explained about the organization. Donation based management. Non-medical doctors are also able to participate. Participants do not seek for compensation. She said understand value of the area, expression and cogitation are required in order to work for MSF. Ms. Suzuki shared her experiences in Afghanistan and Nigeria where she was assigned. She talked about cultural differences, difference of pregnant and parturient women's environments, differences in medical equipment. Students had group discussions on a topic of "what is necessary items to live globally". Students participated discussion and activity enthusiastically.

Mr. Yamazaki gave lecture on topics of "What is a global leader" and "What is cross-cultural communication" from a view point of company's manager. Students experienced workshop of "Johari window" to learn importance of awareness. They also had presentations on "Japanese folk tale" in English to practice to inform university system and necessity of English learning to others. Students also had discussion about marketing and had presentation on a topic of " "Strategies to appeal Yokkaichi and Mie through out Japan using SWOT method. Students seemed very pleased and enjoyed the activities.
