SGH Overseas Field Work in Cambodia (Report)

■ Dates: December 17 (Sun) - 22 (Fri) five nights and six days.

■ Participants: 12 students and 2 teachers

Dec.17（Sun）

Departure from Chubu Centrair International Airport to Cambodia

Departure from Chubu Centrair international airport, transit in Vietnam and then off to Cambodia (Phnom Penh)

Dec.18（Mon）

JICA Cambodia Office

　Ms. Ogawa of JICA Cambodia Office and Ms. Nami Kishida from Iga-city, Mie pref. gave explanations about history of Cambodia and assistance from Japan. Ms. Ogawa kindly answered to the questions from students such as "Mortality rate of infant" "Reliability of governance" etc. They discussed about support and possibilities of Cambodia until the time allowed.

Kurata Pepper

　Students visited Kurata Pepper run by Mr. Kurata who is originally from Tsu-city, Mie prefecture. Mr. Kurata gave a lecture on Cambodia and tips to work globally. Students also visited screening site of peppers.

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

　The Tourslenn massacre museum is a political prison camp in Cambodia under Khmer Rouge. It was diverted from school buildings so we can find schoolyards and classrooms remained. An interrogation room, a dark and narrow cell, a tool used in torture and a picture of many victims were displayed. As we learned the cruel history and we felt that we had to make a world where such things never be repeated again.

Dec. 19（Tue）

Cambodia-Japan Friendship middle and high School

(Prey Veng Province)

　Cambodia-Japan Friendship school is located in a place where it approximately takes two hours from Phnom Penh by car. On the way to the school, students crossed "Tsubasa Bridge" which was build by support of JICA , then they arrived at Cambodia Japan Friendship School. Students introduced themselves, had lunch together and enjoyed spending time.

　They enjoyed playing Japanese and Cambodian game in a school ground then students gave a set of stationery as a gift which were gathered at Yokkaichi high school. They experienced home visit and depend their friendship at the end of program.

Dec.20（Wed）

Tonle Bati

　Tonle Bati is a small temple which was built in Angkor Wat era. It is located about an hour away from from Phnom Penh by car. Students enjoyed Khmer ruins with fine ornaments.

Killing Field

　People in Tuol Sleng were brought here and executed.

Even now, cloth and bone of the victim were buried under the ground.

While listening to explanation of a local guide, student felt a tragic history happened on this site and strongly carved "peace" in their hearts.

The Royal Palace

　Students visited the Royal Palace residence of King of Cambodia, located in the center of Phnom Penh city. Students enjoyed beautiful Buddha statues decorated with gold and jewels in the building in a large site.

Dec. 21（Thurs）

Royal University of law and Economics

　Students enjoyed interact and communicate with students from Research and Education Center for Japanese Law affiliated with Nagoya University. Students interacted in each other's language, with 2nd grade students by introducing each other, with 1st grade students by exchanging business cards.

　After the facility tour with the 3rd and 4th graders, students enjoyed lunch with while talking on topics of Cambodia, their individual future goals. In the afternoon, students played games using Japanese traditional picture cards, performed dance. They enjoyed spending time together and left university campus after farewell.

　Students visited Central Market before departure from Phnom Penh International Airport. They safely came home on Dec. 22.
